Year-RoundBloomington Theatre and Art Center (BTAC) is thrilled to announce the upcoming Bloomington Civic Theatre (BCT) production of Moonlight and Magnolias taking place in the Black Box Theater March 1-March 24.
Famed Hollywood producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind, because he believes the script just doesn’t work. His solution: Fire the director, pull director Victor Fleming off The Wizard of Oz, and lock himself, Fleming, and script doctor Ben Hecht in his office for five days until they have a screenplay. Moonlight and Magnolias is based on this comedic true story of the characters working through and acting out Margaret Mitchell’s bestseller and in the process, making movie history. The Chicago Sun Times praised the play with "…a Hollywood dream-factory farce…At once a hyperventilating slapstick comedy, an impassioned love song and a blazing critique of Hollywood…just when you think it's all fun and games…[Hutchinson] turns the tables…he has a gift for enveloping you in blackness. And then, with a single line…he also can lift the heavy cloud and get on with the hilarity." And the New York Daily News exclaimed "Frankly, my dear, this is one funny play…a rip-roaring farce…[with] witty, pointed dialogue and hilarious situations…”.
