Nov 22, 2013 - Jan 7, 2014
Exhibition: November 19 – January 7th, 2014 Artist Opening: November 22, 5-7pm Artist: Adam McCauley Medium: Painting Title: Paintings from the Pitt St. Series Gallery: Lois Vranesh Boarroom Gallery Artist Statement: In my current work I have been exploring the process of painting and the physical presence that paint can have within each work. I strive to create paintings that have a wide breadth of surface, texture, and color. There is always an inherent element of push/pull in my work and I often create compositions that rely on a balance between color and form. Much of my work is created using repeated applications of paint. By using this process I am able to create works that seem to develop organically. Each line, form, and color is affected by the ones painted before. In the end I create paintings that can seem simple in execution but upon repeated viewings reveal their layered and complicated nature.
Adam McCauley is a fiscal year 2013 recipient of a Career Development grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council (www.aracouncil.org) which is funded in part with money from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008; an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature; and The McKnight Foundation.
