The Bricklayers are bringing their very own madcap, Vegas-influenced adaptation of Moliere’s comic assault on the 1% to towns across the nation. The trio of Bricklayers devised a 90-min. masked adaptation of this classic with the artistic advisory of Barbara Berlovitz, co-founder of Theatre de la Jeune Lune.
Using Moliere with a commedia ideology, The Bricklayers have brought Don Juan to the Modern Era. Performed by three actors playing eleven roles at breakneck speed, this production is filled with physicality and comical mask work combining modern farce, circus buffoonery, and notions of Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed. Don Juan is set in Las Vegas, a perfect backdrop for the misadventures of one very famous libertine in his pursuit of pleasure and power. The Bricklayers’ version is rife with insanity and colored with costumes created by Sonya Berlovitz and masks by Etienne Champion, one of the premiere mask-makers in Europe.
