  • The Tweed Museum of Art is located in the Humanities Building on the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth. The museum is at Ordean Court, just beyond the Jacques Lipchitz sculpture of Sieur du Luth.

  2. He Always Got His Man: Mountie Illustrations

    Over the course of forty years the Northwest Paper Company commissioned artists to illustrate its Mountie brand for promotion of its business-to-business paper sales. Arnold Friberg is the preeminent Mountie illustrator, having produced the largest number of works and some of the most memorable between 1937 and 1970. Internationally renowned illustrator and portraitist of many noted dignitaries including the Queen of England, he was a master of his craft. Arnold Friberg passed away in 2010 at the age of 96, leaving a legacy of excellence in the illustration world. This exhibition is a celebration of his work, showcasing his varied portrayals of the heroic guardian of the North from the Tweed Museum's Potlatch collection of Canadian Royal Mounted Police Illustrations.

    Identity is defined by many things: ethnic origin, family tree, tribe or clan, clothing, land and place, beliefs and religion. Throughout time people have communicated clues about their identity through art.

    Featured items to include Pueblo Pottery, basketry, dolls, and beadwork.

  4. Resurfaced, Reformed: Evolution in Studio Ceramics

    Tradition has exercised a strong current of influence in American studio ceramics, yet the field of ceramics experienced an explosion of new ideas in the 1950’s. This exhibition will illuminate the threads of influence as well as new directions that evolved. Renowned, internationally known ceramic artists will provide the foundation of the exhibit, with works for the Tweed collection, Bemidji State University, and regional artists providing breadth and depth to the selections.

  5. Sister Mary Charles McGough: Engagement and Transcendence

    This is a new exhibition featuring a selection of works by Sister Mary Charles McGough (1925-2007), and it is a collaborative project between Tweed Museum of Art and the Saint Scholastica Benedictine Monastery.
