    A smokin good time! Kansas City Sanctioned BBQ Competition and Live Blues benefits the local chapter of the Special Olympics. Also featuring a family bike cruise. The Family Bike Cruise offers three tours (not a race!) meant for the family, casual cyclist, and those who are more experienced in road riding. Route lengths are eight miles, 23 miles, and 40 miles. Tee shirts are given to all participants along with 'swag' and a wrist-band that gains participants access to the beer garden where one can listen to great blues music and purchase beverages and barbecue sandwiches and meals. The whole event is family-friendly!

    The Steele County Free Fair is much more than a county fair…it’s a family affair! As the largest county fair in Minnesota, our fair offers a wide variety of events and attractions and admission is free!

    For one week each year, the fairgrounds in Owatonna rivals a large shopping center. Vendors from 25 states and Canada bring a wide range of goods, from crystal to quilts, art to furniture, potato peelers to RV’s. More than 100 food stands will tease the taste buds of fairgoers and have them eating everything from cotton candy to prime rib. Kids and adults of all ages will enjoy events from pig races to puppet shows. Thrill seekers will enjoy the 40+ midway rides provided by Gold Star Amusements or one of the many attractions in Adventure Alley. Music lovers of all ages can visit the free entertainment stages.

    The Steele County Free Fair was chosen by the Special Events Directory and Events Business News as one of the top 200 events in North America.

    The 39th annual Young Life Golf Tournament is Saturday, June 17, with an 8:30AM shotgun start at Brooktree Golf Course. Registration for adults is $125 and college students and younger are $75.

    three mulligans

    Prizes will be awarded for longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin. There also will be a celebrity driver who will hit your tee shot for you on hole 4.

    Owatonna boasts the world famous architecture of Louis Sullivan's designed National Farmers' Bank in downtown Owatonna. Encounter and enjoy a blend of architectural styles from the late 1800s to early 1900s through Owatonna's self-guided Historic Walking Tour. Historic homes, schools, churches, and other buildings are clustered downtown and the nearby residential areas. Guided tours of the National Farmers' Bank and/or the Historic Walking Tour are available through the Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.

    The fully accessible Steele County History Center features rotating exhibits, displays, and educational programming relative to Steele County and Minnesota history.

    Hours are:
    Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 10 a.m. till 4 p.m.
    Thursday 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
    Saturday 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
    Closed Sunday and Monday

    The Center also features a multipurpose room and mini-theater that are available for rent for public and private functions. Contact the History Center for more information about the Center's availability.
