    This exhibit showcases the work of six young American Indian artists who came together over 12 weeks to learn the process of digital photography in a guided, supportive and culturally sensitive environment. The artists will show a selection of photographs that empowers their indigenous identity. Artists include Nolan Berglund, Amoreina Espinosa, Joe Ettawageshik, Shaw Handley, Marco Hunt and Angel Swann.

    Enjoy a day of music performed by some of the premier American Indian musicians from Minnesota. The lineup includes Annie Humphrey from Leech Lake, a well-known activist and folk-rock singer; Thomas X (Thomas Barrett), from Red Lake, an up-and-coming hip-hop/rap artist; as well as local musicians from the Mille Lacs Band who will play flute music and perform hand drum songs.

    This program is sponsored in part by the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of the Society of Friends Indian Committee and the Mille Lacs Energy Community Trust.

  4. Applique Beading 2-Day Workshop

    Learn techniques of applique beading and make an applique beaded coin purse to take home. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided both days. The workshop runs:

    Saturday: Noon-4 pm
    Sunday: 10 am-2 pm
    A minimum of five participants is required. Children under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required three days prior to workshop. Discount hotel rooms are available at Grand Casino Mille Lacs on Saturday night for all workshop participants; reservations must be made at least 10 days in advance.

    Learn how to store and work with birch bark in this one-day workshop. Participants will make a large basket to take home. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Experience firsthand the excitement and joy of a contemporary Pow-Wow. This outdoor event is free and open to the public, but regular admission prices apply to visit the museum.

    On Saturday, learn how to dig clay, harvest the tempering agents and construct a clay vessel letting the pots dry overnight. On Sunday, finish the surface details and temper the clay vessel in a firing pit. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided both days.
