    Bats are an important part of our ecosystem. Unfortunately, they are losing spaces to roost. During this program participants will learn about the bats of Minnesota and have an opportunity to build a bat house to take home with them. There is a cost per bat house. Youth must have an adult to help them with the project. Call the park to make a reservation.

    Join us as we search for these "creatures of the night" and learn about their special adaptations and abilities. The evening includes games, songs, and the chance to see the bats begin their nightly search for food.

  3. Geocaching 101:Guide to High Tech Treasure Hunting

    Learn about the sport of geocaching. The program answers questions about the sport, including how to use a GPS, how to find caches, and proper caching etiquette. The program ends with each group attempting a sample multi-cache. The program begins at the visitor center. Limited number of GPS units available.

    Join us as we take you on a spectacular tour of the night skies. After a short indoor presentation, we venture outside to view the celestial sights through provided telescope and binoculars. If it is cloudy, the indoor presentation will still occur.

  5. River Canoe Trip: A Scientific Exploration of Water Quality

    Are you looking for a more exciting adventure than just canoeing a lake? Join our naturalist and canoe enthusiast as we travel down a section of a local river. Perhaps we will see turtles sunning themselves on logs or river otters busy at play or eagles searching for food, the opportunities are endless. The trip will include a water quality monitoring experiment and service project. River canoeing offers additional challenges, such as currents, so canoe experience is required for this program. Meet at the park visitor center and dress appropriately for being outdoors and in the water. Bring your own water, snacks, and lunch. Call the park office to register, as space is limited. Must be at least 13 years old and youth must be accompanied by an adult. Canoes and equipment will be provided for this program. The program costs $30.00 per person (youth under 13 are allowed, please call for details).

    Explore the park to learn about various plants and animals. The programs will consists of hands on activities and in-field exploration, as well as, discussions on how to continue one’s learning in various citizen science programs. Meet at the Soudan Underground Mine visitor center and be prepared to be outside.
