    This event celebrates all manner of fiber arts, featuring seminars and course offerings from long-time North House instructors as well as featured guest instructor. This year marks our 8th annual Northern Fibers Retreat, a collaboration between the Grand Marais Art Colony, North House Folk School and the Northwoods Fiber Guild. Returning this year are the Show n’ Share and the popular Lunch and Learn series. Also on the schedule, a kids program and more!


    Co-hosted with the North House Folk School and the Northwoods Fiber Guild. Classes and programs will be offered at both the Art Colony & North House.

    Spring is an explosion of life in the North! Discovering the birds, wildflowers, insects and more of this dynamic and rich northern landscape is the focus of this festival. Participation in the festival is open to anyone interested in hands-on learning and curious about the dynamics of the northern landscape.     Featured Presentation: Minnesota’s Changing Climate
    Saturday, June 3, 7pm
    From extended January thaws to July heatwaves to once in a lifetime storms seemingly every other weekend, there’s plenty of evidence that our Minnesota climate is changing. Join three of Minnesota’s leading climate scientists, Chief Meteorologist Paul Huttner of MPR, Dr. Jay Austin of the Large Lakes Observatory and Dr. Lee Froelich of the U of MN Center for Forest Ecology for a wide-ranging presentation on the latest climate science in Minnesota, climate changes on Lake Superior and the Great Lakes and climate change impacts on the forests of northern Minnesota. After a short presentation from each scientist, an in-depth round table discussion with a question and answer session from the audience will follow.

    Let the woodchips fly! Join us for a week devoted solely to woodworking in its many forms. We have expanded the schedule this year, allowing for more course offerings, from spoons to bowls, stacked-handle knives to ax handling.
    Courses will run either Tuesday-Thursday or Saturday-Monday.

    All students, regardless of start date are invited to participate in the one day Carver’s Conference held Friday, March 2. This conference will include workshops, skill shares, excursions and open shop time at no additional cost (not to mention a rare wintertime wood-fired pizza bake that night!).
