Historic Funding Increase for Minnesota Tourism Promotion
Release Date: May 24, 2013
Governor Mark Dayton has signed into law the Omnibus Economic Development Appropriations bill that includes a $5.5 million annual increase in funding for Explore Minnesota Tourism (EMT). The budget for EMT will go from $8.4 million to $13.9 for each of the next two fiscal years. These funds will be invested in new marketing to generate new travel to Minnesota.
This is a very historic time for Minnesota tourism as it represents the largest increase in tourism funding in decades. We now have the resources to compete. There are many people to thank - starting with Governor Dayton, our authors, our committee chairs, the Minnesota Tourism Growth Coalition, our Council and many others.
We look forward to working with the Council to refine our strategic plans and use of these dollars to market Minnesota. Thanks to all for your support and encouragement as we developed our plans over the past year. This is a great time for Minnesota tourism.
