2013 PedalMN Bicycle Summit a Big Success
Release Date: Oct 09, 2013
About 200 people attended the 2013 PedalMN Bicycle Summit September 30 – October 1, with almost 100 participating in the experiential learning sessions on Monday. Participants learned while they mountain biked at Cuyuna Country Recreation Area, on the Cuyuna Lakes & Mississippi River Trail road ride, or on an economic development van tour.
National speakers Mike Van Abel, executive director of the International Mountain Bicycling Association, and Alison Dewey, bicycle friendly program manager for the League of American Bicyclists, shared statistics on how bicycling benefits communities and individuals in a variety of ways. Health professionals from Blue Cross/Blue Shield MN, Health Partners and OptumHealth also talked about the health and economic benefits for businesses that encourage healthy lifestyles including biking. Breakout sessions discussed becoming bicycle friendly, promoting bicycling to new populations, and creating events and much more.
