Explore Minnesota Tourism Council Reviewed
Release Date: Oct 09, 2013
The 2013 Legislature adopted changes to the Minnesota Sunset Act which require that by September 1 of each odd-numbered year, the Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy (LCPFP) must compile a list of executive branch advisory groups created in statute, including the Explore Minnesota Tourism (EMT) Council. Last week, the LCPFP met and presentations were made by state agencies regarding 14 advisory groups. John Edman presented the information regarding the EMT Council. The LCPFP is tasked with making recommendations to the Legislature regarding the continuing need for certain advisory groups, and/or any changes that should be made in statute. During the hearing and discussion about other advisory groups there was some consensus that several may no longer be necessary; however, the overall comments regarding the EMT Council were positive and there is support for this advisory council to continue in existence.
