The early registration deadline for the Explore Minnesota Tourism Conference is fast approaching. The multi-attendee rate for all subsequent registrations from the same business/organization is $225 at any time. Registration without full payment or postmarked after this date is $279. The Explore Minnesota Tourism Conference features educational sessions on the hottest topics and trends in the industry. Laura Mandala of Mandala Research will share results from their recent study on culinary tourism. Findings point to some great opportunities for Minnesota; for instance, travelers are most interested in local and authentic foods and culinary experiences that are different from those they can get at home. Think wild rice and eelpout!
Traveling to play sports or watch your children or spouse play in tournaments is a growing segment of the travel market. Kelly Sayre, Director of Sports Marketing for St. Cloud CVB, will share tips on how communities benefit from promoting their sports facilities. Barclay Kruse, National Sports Center, will talk about creating events, like Schwan’s USA Cup Soccer, to draw sports-minded travelers. Minnesota Youth Athletic Services (MYAS) creates more than 250 events each year that host 150,000 athletes. When you add parents, siblings and coaches to this number, that means a lot of room nights. Dan Klinkhammer, Executive Director of MYAS, will also be on this panel to walk through what MYAS is looking for in destinations and facilities and how they work closely with destinations on their event planning.
The MACVB Silent Auction will be an online auction this year. Bidding opens on Monday, Jan. 27, with some great items, including Delta airline tickets, riding lawn mowers and more. Download the bidding “cheat sheet” here.
The full schedule with session descriptions and speaker information is also available on the conference website.
