Minnesota Communities Participate in National Travel and Tourism Week
Release Date: May 06, 2014
This week, May 3-11, marks the 30th annual National Travel and Tourism Week. Communities throughout Minnesota are getting involved at a local level to spread the word about the powerful impact the tourism industry has on our state’s economy.
The Grand Rapids Herald Review profiled what communities in Itasca County are doing, and Lisa Havelka from the Owatonna Chamber of Commerce & Tourism wrote an op-ed about the area’s efforts for the Owatonna People’s Press. In Winona, Mayor Mark Peterson lead the kick-off celebration at the Winona Visitors Center today.
Explore Minnesota has a number of materials to help support your Tourism Week efforts. Resources can be found on the tourism awareness page and include: Tourism and the Economy (2014) fact sheet; the 2013 Annual Report; Smith Travel Research lodging performance data; the 2020 Vision report; and seasonal surveys. In addition, you can access a short video, “Tourism Works for Minnesota.”
