Mobile Traffic Exploding on Exploreminnesota.com

Mobile traffic on exploreminnesota.com, that is, use of the site with mobile phones or tablets, has exploded over the past couple of years. In August 2010, we recorded around 10,000 visits. Two years later, in August 2012, mobile visits had risen to over 90,000, almost a third of overall traffic. September, usually a much quieter month than August, was expected to top that number, and the trend continues.

In response to this trend, Explore Minnesota Tourism is working hard to improve and increase use of our mobile travel planning tools. Changes to the mobile site in the coming year will include:

• Improving the "map it" function to make it easier to get directions from a mobile device;
• Adding a "what's nearby" feature for finding lodging, attractions, or events near another listing;
• Making changes that would allow for advertising on the mobile site; and
• Providing better statistics on mobile site use.
