Governor's Pheasant Opener a Great Success
Release Date: Oct 16, 2012
Governor Dayton traveled to Marshall this past weekend to attend the 2nd annual Governor's Pheasant Opener. He was joined by media from three states; U.S., state, and local elected officials; Department of Natural Resources (DNR) commissioner Tom Landwehr, and Explore Minnesota Tourism director John Edman, among others, to highlight the tradition of pheasant hunting and tourism generated by hunting in Minnesota. The event kicked off on Friday afternoon at a local shooting club where participants sharpened their shooting skills by shooting clay birds. Then they attended a land dedication ceremony at an area Wildlife Management Area (WMA). Friday evening a community banquet was held, with over 300 in attendance. Saturday morning approximately 70 hunters took to the fields around Marshall, bagging close to 100 rooster pheasants.
