Explore Minnesota Tourism (EMT)evaluated their publications, including insight into the travel planning process, the role of print publications, their impact on travel, and evaluations of specific Minnesota publications. Usage of the Internet to gather travel information has become the norm, but people still use printed publications. A key question addressed in this study is how printed publications integrate with on-line resources to meet consumers informational needs.

Consumer-based research conducted by SMARI in 2007 and 2008. Explore Minnesota Tourism was interested in evaluating the image of Minnesota and the existing regions; identifying how travel regions are perceived and utilized by consumers; and identifying points of differentiation among the regions. The study was utilized in a decision to reconfigure Minnesota's four tourism regions into five regions.
