Minnesota bands and recording artists have played a significant role in shaping popular music in the last 50 years. Bob Dylan, Prince, the Replacements, Soul Asylum and The Jayhawks are just a few of the influential artists from Minnesota. More recent emerging artists include Mason Jennings, Dessa, Owl City, Tapes 'n' Tapes, Atmosphere and Jeremy Messersmith.

Minnesota also has many and varied venues for experiencing live music, from coffee shops to stadiums and lots in between. In summer a wide assortment of outdoor music concerts and festivals representing all genres of music are happening.

Trampled By Turtles - Stars and Satellites

With roots in Duluth the band Trampled By Turtles has been building a substantial fan base in the Midwest and beyond since 2003. Much of their popularity stems from their Indie Folk tinged Bluegrass style of music that has evolved through 5 albums and hundreds of energetic live shows. TBT's 2010 album "Palomino" garnered critical acclaim from several influential music websites and their latest release "Stars and Satellites" has been highly anticipated. Their  2012 tour to promote the new album starting in April has sold out in several cities at the outset. Trampled by Turtles is Dave Simonett (guitar/vocals), Tim Saxhaug (bass, vocals), Dave Carroll (banjo, vocals), Erik Berry (mandolin/vocals)  and Ryan Young (fiddle).
