High Tech Resources Ready to go on the Road with Travelers

St Paul, MN (May 3, 2012) – Explore Minnesota Tourism, the state's tourism promotion office, has just introduced two handy digital resources for travelers on the go, a streamlined mobile version of the state's travel website and a free application focused on outdoor recreation.

"More and more, travelers are using their smart phones and other devices to find information while they're on their trips," explains John Edman, director of Explore Minnesota Tourism. "Our revamped mobile site and new app both make it easy to find a place to stay or something fun to do along the way."

The Explore Minnesota Active Living mobile application, available in both Android and iPhone versions, features places to go biking, hiking, birding, paddling, skiing and more, and events such as runs and walks. The app defaults to the user's current location, but another location can be designated for planning trips to a specific destination. Mapping and directions are available. The app also provides information on places to stay near the selected activities.

Users can select information to create their own lists of places and events. They can also post comments on things they've done or places they've visited, and share their trip ideas with others through the app itself or through social media.

"The Active Living app lets you find and keep track of fun and healthy things to do all year long," says Edman. "And our new, improved mobile site is a very cool way to get a ton of travel information."

A total redesign of the state's mobile travel website, m.exploreminnesota.com, provides a vast array of travel information and is easy to search. It includes information on places to stay, things to do, events, deals and local visitor information resources, and offers keyword searches. Location based, the site automatically provides information based on where the user is, but other locations can be entered to find information on future destinations.
