Year-Round

National Forest Lodge has been a cross country skiing destination in Northern Minnesota since the development of the Flathorn/Gegoka trail system in the 1960's. 30Km of groomed classic XC and snowshoe trails too. All inclusive winter weekends include lodging, meals, outdoor hot tub, sauna (polar plunge) and entertainment. Located on pristine Lake Gegoka and surrounded by the tall red and white pine of Superior National Forest. A beautiful Log Home and rustic cabins are available year round. In the winter months we cater exclusively to skiers and are completely non-motorized. Surprisingly, we are only 90 minutes from Duluth and half an hour from the North Shore. We groom exclusively for classical skiing, and you may ski directly from your door. The terrain is varied - everything from the "Big Pines" to cedar swamps - as is the elevation, which is mostly moderate. Benches built into the footbridges crossing the Little Isabella River offer a place to rest and reflect on the beauty of the river flowing beneath you. Average snowfall of eight feet means great skiing from December through March. We also have a separate snowshoe trail system. After a day outside, the wood fired sauna is a popular spot, with a hole in the ice offering the "ultimate sauna experience"! Our outside hot tub is a nice place to stargaze and watch for northern lights, while soothing sore muscles.

Our rustic cabins are served by a central shower house, have gas heat, electricity and are warm and comfortably furnished. While the cabins have been updated, several are genuine log cabins from the 1920’s and others are a mix of log and frame construction with knotty pine paneling. A perfect place to settle into after a day on the trails. Our log house is fully modern, has a gas fireplace, two full baths and can sleep up to 10 people. Meals are included in the package and are served family style in our dining hall/lodge overlooking Lake Gegoka. There are always a variety of offerings available at each meal, including a vegetarian option. For a truly unique "winter get away", please give us a call or make a reservation online.
