The Bemis Hill Area trails are located in the west side of Beltrami Island State forest (BISF). The 85 miles of OHV trails in this system are connected to other state forest roads and trails situated in Beltrami and Roseau County. The BISF is the second largest forest in the state and includes a variety of other land ownerships such as Land Utilization Project (LUP), Red Lake Tribal (which are always closed to non-band members), private and county lands. Adjacent is Hayes Lake State Park and Red Lake Wildlife Management Area. Much of this forest was once an island surrounded by glacial Lake Agassiz. The trails follow old beach ridges covered with pine and are surrounded by large areas of low flatlands and peat bogs. BISF contains 238 miles of ATV/OHM trails and 457 miles of forest roads situated in Beltrami, Lake of the Woods and Roseau County. The entire forest map is available from the DNR Information Center. The trail is sponsored by Roseau County and maintained by the NorthStar ATV Club. Most of the trails in the forest are shared with highway licensed vehicles (HLV) and other forest users. Please ride responsibly.
