    This is a program of solo, duo and trio music featuring Rochester artists Horacio Nuguid, Carla Thelen Hanson and David Townsend. The first half of the program is an offering of solo piano music beginning with Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique with its funeral March introduction, and ending with a more cheerful Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise by Chopin. More works originally written for orchestra will be presented in the second half of the program. Das himmlische Leben is an arrangement for trio of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, final movement. The program will end with another Beethoven work, his concert aria Ah! Perfido, with the orchestral reduction played on the piano.

    Brad Jungwirth has been described by critics as “a muscular baritone with an evocatively dark instrument” and has been praised for his “dulcet and lyrical” voice and “no-holds-barred intensity.” Brian Jungwirth will make his Rochester debut performance singing works by Mozart, Brahms, Gorecki and Poulenc. He will be joined by pianist Jan Matson and bassist Robert S. P. Gardner.

    This concert will explore the rich variety of this most significant form of jazz. David Townsend, woodwinds, Brian Koh, violin, Ralph Schornack, piano, Terry Gresser, percussion, and Robert S. P. Gardner, bass, provide the foundation for an octet performing music by Gershwin, Ellington, and Previn among others. Also featured is the premiere of "3 Jazz Limericks" by Gardner.

    The Artaria String Quartet returns to Rochester to perform music "From the Old Country" at Rochester Chamber Music Society’s first concert of the 2014-2015 season. The program will feature Pleyel’s String Quartet in G Minor, Op. 2 No. 3, Dvorak’s Waltzes, Op. 54 Nos. 1 and 4, and Mozart‘s String Quartet in C Major (Dissonance), K 465. Nationally acclaimed, the Artaria String Quartet’s refined and thoughtful playing has brought them to major venues throughout the United States and Europe. They have been featured on national television and public radio stations, and have appeared at top summer festivals including the Banff Centre in Canada, Festival de l’Epau in France, and the Tanglewood Music Center. Founded in Boston in 1986 and mentored by members of the legendary Kolisch and Budapest Quartets and coached by the Cleveland, Emerson, and Juilliard Quartets, the ASQ moved to St. Paul where it directs the Artaria Chamber Music School and the Saint Paul String Quartet Competition. Artaria also directs Stringwood Summer Chamber Music Festival, now celebrating 15 years in southeast Minnesota.
