  • About 90 miles north of Twin Cities, 60 miles south of Duluth via I-35. At Sandstone exit #191, take Hwy 61 west about 2 mi; turn right on Cty 27 then left at 'T' (still 27). Go 3 mi, turn right on Fox Rd (Cty 17), then immediate left into Audubon Dr.

Other Date Information

  • Office & trails are open Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm. Trails also accessible on some Saturdays, but please call first. Adult and youth programs throughout the year - check our website.

    In celebration of the end of the year, we hold a fantastic dinner banquet in our beautiful lakeside dining room, followed by an interesting nature-focused keynote speaker.

    After a wonderful dinner in our beautiful lakeside dining hall, enjoy an interesting presentation by keynote speaker Jeff Forester, author of Forest for the Trees: How Humans Shaped the North Woods. He gives us a better appreciation for the past, present, and future of America’s forests. Jeff will describe how humans have occupied and managed the northern borderlands of Minnesota, from tribal burning to pioneer and industrial logging to evolving conceptions of wilderness and restoration forestry. In addition, he will share other forest stories including the unique Menominee Tribal Enterprises, the Fire Marshal in Jackson County Colorado who saved Denver by doing a prescribed burn a few years before their big fire some in 2002, and how much of the best work is being done locally.

    Winter will give way to spring before we know it and then the sap will be flowing in the maple trees. That's maple syrup time at the Audubon Center of the North Woods!

    Come join us for a pancake brunch and hands-on maple syrup program. You will learn which trees in the woods are maple trees, and the history and process of making maple syrup. Then, help us will tap some maple trees, collect and haul sap, and observe the sap being processed in to liquid gold maple syrup.

    Cost for brunch and program is $15/adult, $10/child (5-12 years); if you just want to come for the programming, cost is $5/person

    Group discount (12 or more people; $2 discount per person) is available, making this the perfect event for scouts, youth groups, etc.
