  1. Astronomy and Stargazing

    See stars, planets, galaxies and nebulae up close with your own eyes!

    Join the Glacial Lakes Astronomers and Stargazers Society (GLASS) at Glacial Lakes State Park once a month from April through October. You will get the chance to look through a variety of telescopes and binoculars as GLASS members answer your questions about your night sky.

    Please contact the park for specific dates. (320) 239-2860. Meet at the Horse Camp at dusk, weather permitting. No equipment is necessary, but if you have binoculars or a telescope you are highly encouraged to bring them!

    In case of inclement weather, contact the park or visit the GLASS website.

    A MN state Park vehicle permit is required to attend this event, and can be purchased at the park for $5/day or $25 for an annual permit.

    Come out to the park for a nature themed story time and activity. Each week starting at 10am, we will have a new theme, so come every week! We will read a book and then do an activity to follow. Activities very each week from short nature hikes to crafts. This program is designed for pre-school to early elementary school students. Call the park for more information regarding exact details of this program or directions to the park.

    Beginning Canoeing (10am-12pm)

    -Meet at the boat access near the beach to learn canoeing basics from a Naturalist. We will cover safety, parts of the canoe and paddles, and strokes, before heading out on to the water to practice our skills. Equipment will be provided.

    Junior Park Naturalist (1pm-3pm)

    -Meet at the picnic tables by the beach parking lot for a different nature program each week. These programs are designed for children aged 5-15, but all are welcome. We will be exploring topics like frogs and toads, insects, fish, and more. Call the park or check online for more specific information regarding a specific date.

    Glacial Lakes state park is a unique segment of soaring hills contrasted by supine valleys which were formed by the last glaciers more than 10,000 years ago. Visitors will find hiking along the ridgetops, swimming in the sparkling clear lake exhilarating and spectacular. Visitors won't want to miss this opportunity to appreciate the Minnesota prairie and oak savanna.
