    Join a naturalist every Friday for an afternoon of fishing and learning. We will discover the world of fish and then show you how to catch them. Bring your own bait, worms work best. Also bring a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a water bottle. Limited rods and reels will be provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the amphitheater. Only non-Minnesota residents need a fishing license.

    A MN state Park vehicle permit is required to attend this event, and can be purchased at the park for $5/day or $25 for an annual permit.

    Want to go on a camping trip with your family, but aren't sure you really know how? Attend the “I Can Camp” overnight program at Lake Carlos State Park and learn all the skills you'll need for a lifetime of camping fun—no experience necessary!

    A trained crew will be on hand to ensure your whole family has a safe and fun adventure. There will be lots of outdoor activities for kids and adults, from nature walks and wildlife watching to fishing and geocaching. You'll learn a variety of outdoor skills as well, including:
    -How to set up camp and tents
    -Fire starting
    -Outdoor cooking with fun recipes

    Celebrate "National Get Outdoors Day" with activities and nature tours at Lake Carlos State Park. On this day, vehicle permits are not required to enter the park.

    Come explore and enjoy the park on your own or participate in one of the many planned activities, such as family fishing, crafts, canoeing, and geocaching. What great way to get your family outdoors!

    This program is designed for preschool to early elementary aged children. Each Saturday at 10am, from June 21st through August 30th learn about nature through children’s books and accompanying activities at the Lake Carlos State Park Visitor Center. Join the naturalist for this hands-on program sure to keep your little ones entertained.

    The spring season brings with it many delights including the welcomed return of a popular songbird, the Eastern Bluebird, decked out in bright blue feathers, a rusty colored throat and white belly. On Saturday, May 3, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the entire family is invited to the Visitor Center to learn about this great bird. We will answer questions and share our knowledge about the beautiful eastern bluebird, how to attract bluebirds to your backyard and how to be successful in increasing the bluebird population. Feel free to just stop by and bring your photos and questions to share, or make a mealworm bird feeder to take home with you (one per family).

    Sculpted by ancient glaciers, Lake Carlos State Park contains a tamarack bog, marshes, woodland ponds, and lakes. A variety of recreational activities revolve around the lake. Clear and deep, Lake Carlos offers visitors a perfect setting for swimming, fishing, boating, camping, hiking and horseback riding. In the winter, ski from the tamarack bog to a maple-basswood forest.
