    Houston, MN 55943
    Call: (507) 896-6957

Immerse yourself in owls at the only annual, full-weekend, all-owl festival in North America. Highlights include live owl programs, owl prowls to call in wild owls, a birding and natural history bus trip, and a banquet featuring the presentation of the World Owl Hall of Fame awards and international speakers. Families can build an owl nest box, dissect an owl pellet, make a variety of owl crafts, and have a hoot eating owl-themed food.

    Moonlight Hoot Scoot

    126 E Cedar St/215 W Plum St
    Houston, MN 55943
    Call: (507) 896-6957

Enjoy a night run (or walk) in nature on the Root River Trail, lit by luminaries. Each participant receives a reusable lighted bracelet to wear as well as a T-shirt featuring the Hoot Scoot logo.

Participants are encouraged to wear an owl costume or owl clothing during the run. Everyone who does will receive a special treat, and the person with the best costume will receive an award.

There will also be photo opportunities with our owl mascot, Hooston.

Expect owl-themed refreshments at the finish.

No dogs allowed for safety reasons.
Strollers are allowed, but will be asked to be at the rear of the group at the starting line.
No flashlights or headlamps allowed, even for kids in strollers, since they compromise dark-accommodated vision.

The 1 mile run begins at 7:00 PM and the 5K begins about 7:30 PM. Cost is $25 for the 5K and $20 for the 1-mile Fun Run if you register by September 27. After that date the registration fees are $30 and $25 respectively, and we cannot guarantee a T-shirt. You can also register at the race.
If you can't participate but just want the cool shirt, we will mail you a shirt for $25, postage & handling included. Orders must be received by September 27.

The race will be held rain or shine. Since this is a fundraiser, there will be no refunds.

  3. Owl Prowl to Call In Wild Owls

Owl Prowl to Call In Wild Owls

    126 E Cedar St
    Houston, MN 55943
    Call: (507) 896-6957

Owls live all around us but are very good at evading detection. Come learn how to identify our local owls by size, shape, silhouette and sound with the Owl Center's human and owl staff. Following the indoor portion of the program participants will carpool to known owl territories in and around Houston to call for Eastern Screech-Owls, Barred Owls, and Great Horned Owls.

Dress for the weather, and try to wear clothes that don't make noise when you move. Calling will be done from the side of the road, so very little walking is required. Children are welcome, but must be able to stand quietly for at least 10 minutes at a time. Meet at the International Owl Center at the listed time and expect to return roughly 2.5 - 3 hours later.

Please RSVP for the program you plan to attend (karla@internationalowlcenter.org), but pay when you arrive.

Programs will be canceled in case of significant wind, rain, or severe road conditions. Participants who have reserved a space will be notified of cancellations.
