Walleye fishing is great, but you can also catch smallmouth bass, crappie, northern pike and muskellunge. Rainy River also offers a special sturgeon season and is famous for early spring fishing.
Voyageurs National Park offers boat tours, interpretive programs, camping, boating, hiking and much more. Resorts offer boat rentals to help you explore, or arrange a houseboat vacation and your vacation cabin goes where you go.
Early history in the International Falls, Ranier and Rainy Lake area is covered at the Koochiching Museums at Smokey Bear Park in International Falls. The Bronko Nagurski Annex commemorates the Falls native and NFL great.
Boise Cascade is home to one of the largest papermaking machines in the world and tours are quite popular.
The Rainy Lake bike trail, City Beach, Falls Country Club and area playgrounds all offer additional recreational opportunities.
There are many forestry roads throughout Koochiching County and they travel through huge tracts of public land. Opportunities for wildlife watching, fall colors or hunting abound.
