    Annie was the longest resident at Scandia's Gammelgården - "small farm". We celebrate her tradition of a Coffee Party each 2nd Saturday September through December. A 3-course Swedish coffee party is a perfect way to celebrate birthdays, Red Hat outings, a family get together, or a special treat for yourself and a friend!
    *Learn about life in Minnesota as a Swedish immigrant
    and find out about Swedish history and culture
    *Guided tour of the 5 historic buildings is included September and October. November and December Coffee Parties share in a history discussion with the Museum Director.

    Step back in time to the 1850's with Immigrant Inspired Family Events held at the old, small farm known as Gammelgården Museum. We provide family friendly, free activities, games or crafts from the 1850's on our grounds among the 5 historic buildings that make up the old (gammel) small farm (gården). Experience life on an immigrant farm on Sunday May 29 from 1:00 to 4:00. This is a free event for families.

    Welcome the Jul season with the celebration of Lucia. Follow the candlelit pathway to the GammelKyrkan for a brief Swedish prayer service. (Dress warmly—this church dates back to 1856 and has no heat.) Afterwards, join us across the street at the Community Center for a full Lucia Jul Fest Breakfast with special guests; the Svenskarnas Dag Girls Choir which presents their lovely music program that honors Lucia and her ministry of bringing light into darkness. Gammelgården’s large exhibit of Lucia artifacts will be on display during the month of December for your enjoyment in our Passage Room of the Välkommen Hus.     Midsommar Dag is the most important holiday of the year and one of the most uniquely Swedish in the way it is celebrated. The Majstång (the Swedish version of a Maypole) is decorated with greens and flowers then raised in the center of town. Traditional Swedish music and dances celebrate the long days of summer!

  8. Running of the Meatballs

    Running of the Meatballs is a unique and hilarious downhill race of thousands of “meatballs” (brown painted golf balls). It is not only fun to watch but an important fundraiser for the museum’s ongoing historic building renovation projects. Tickets are $5 apiece or $20 for 5 and can be purchased in the gift shop or from a roaming ticket seller before the race that starts shortly before the Taco Daze parade. The meatballs are released and roll wildly down Oak Hill Road into the chute. Prizes are awarded to the first 10 balls down the hill.

    Fiddlers - Calling all fiddlers! Gammelgården celebrates the Immigrant Fiddle - important in many immigrant cultures. Join us to participate and/or appreciate this Annual festival called Spelmanstämma! (Spelman-fiddler and stämma-gathering) Musicians, dancers, crafts and food. All outside amid 1850's Swedish historic log buildings. Join the fun. Bring your own instrument. Activities for children. Artists and vendors.
