Historic Union Depot was once Duluth’s busiest train station. Closed to rail traffic in 1969, the building was rescued by a group of concerned citizens and by St. Louis County. Working together they transformed the building into a community cultural center and home to four museums. Now on the national Register of Historic Places, The Depot is a family destination and one of Duluth’s premier tourist attractions! The "Ellis Island" of Northeastern Minnesota, the Chateauesque-style Union Depot in downtown Duluth served as a gateway to the New World for thousands of immigrants arriving by train at the turn of the century. Today vintage steam locomotives and their antique wooden coaches silently wait for passengers trackside in the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, home of the Midwest's largest indoor train collections. Climb up into the cab of one of the most massive steam engines ever constructed. Learn the history of railroading in Minnesota as you view the William A. Crooks the State's first steam locomotive. Explore the inside of the oldest known steam rotary snowplows in existence today. In the summer ride the free Trolley!

One low admission price covers a total of four museums and art galleries including; the Duluth Children's Museum, St. Louis County Historical Society and Duluth Art Institute. See the region's past come alive as you discover the fascinating Ojibway culture, learn about the logging and fur trade, early European explorers, the area's veterans, multicultural children's displays and so much more!
