  • From Twin Cities: Take Hwy 77 (Cedar) south to Hwy 50. Turn left on Hwy 50 (east) to Denmark Ave. Turn right (south) on Denmark to 220th St W. Turn left (east) onto 220th St W to entrance of Dakota City and the Fairgrounds on right-hand side (2nd street)

    Get in the Holiday spirit by stepping back in time to our 1900s rural Minnesota village. Children can visit with our Victorian Santa, visitors can see cooking and needlecraft demonstrations in the Harris House, listen to choirs and individuals as they provide holiday music in the church, parents can help their children make old-fashioned crafts, and much more. The Village is decorated for 1900s Victorian Christmas. Get your copy of the Dakota City Free Press and read the news of the day. Spend a leisurely pre-holiday outing with us. Hot food and refreshments are available in the Drug Store.

    Step back in time and enjoy a summer day in 1900. Costumed guides will lead 90-minute walking tours through the village, on the hour between 10am - noon. You have the option to bring your own picnic lunch and eat at the picnic tables in the village. You can also tour through the museum before or after your village tour. The gift shop will be open. Buy your tickets in our office located in Ahlberg Hall. The village is open 10am - 2pm with the last tour starting at noon. You must have a ticket to be in the village.

    Harvest Moon Festival provides an opportunity to bring people of all ages to experience activities of the past in our Village through hands-on demonstrations. Activities may include: shelling corn, making a corn husk doll, pumping water, making rope, grinding coffee, playing old-fashioned games. Adults can enjoy showing everyone how things were done in the past or learn themselves from costumed demonstrators and volunteers. Harvest Moon Festival is for the young and the young-at-heart.

    Holidays in the 1900 era.

    Beautifully lit buildings, draft horse drawn trolleys, and costumed guides. Visit with Mrs. Santa in the Post Office while mailing your letter to Santa. There will be cooking in the Harris House, Christmas trees in all the buildings, choirs and individuals providing holiday music and plays in the Church. Hot food and other refreshments are available in the Drug Store. Experience living history firsthand with costumed interpreters and demonstrations.

    Or tour the holiday lights driving through the 1900's village any evening during December.
