    Cordage - 1-3 p.m. - Discover how to use fibers from native plants to make your own string.

    Pottery- 3-5 p.m. - Experience the process of creating Traditional American Indian Pottery. Participants can create their own pinch or coil pots.

    Enjoy an evening guided tour of the carvings at 6 p.m. when they are most visible.

    After the tour, a presentation about nocturnal animals will take place in the Visitor's Center at 7:15 p.m. The presentation will include a variety of hands-on activities and information about how certain animals have characteristics that help them survive at night followed by a twilight hike prairie hike (bring a flashlight!) Event hours: 5:30-9 p.m.

  3. Celebrate the Garden Harvest

    Step back in time and experience the celebration of the first garden harvest of the summer. An ongoing food demonstration of a Minnesota Diet from 1,000 years ago will take place through the afternoon. Event hours: 1-5 p.m.

  4. Early Survival Skills of the American Indian

    Learn a few necessary survival skills of the American Indian. 1-3 p.m.: Make your own atlatl (spearthrower) and then learn how to use it to throw a spear at our bison target.
    1-5 p.m. See if you have the patience and skill that it takes to start a fire using primitive methods 3-5 p.m. Observe a flintknapper demonstrate the process of creating stone projectile points (arrowheads) and then try making your own. A collection of atlatls will be on display throughout the day. Event hours: 1-5 p.m.

    Discover the unique geological features of the Jeffers Petroglyphs. At 2 p.m. a tour highlighting the interesting features of the rock will take place with American Indian and geological perspectives. Event hours: 1-5 p.m.

    Visitors are invited to participate in the ongoing construction by staff of a 2000 yr. old style house out of willow saplings. The house will remain on display at the site throughout the summer.

    Explore the Jeffers Petroglyphs when the carvings are best seen in this special guided tour at 6:30 p.m. Following the tour, gaze at the sky and learn about constellations through stories from cultures around the globe. The visitors will then have the opportunity to view stars and planets with amateur astronomers.
