    The Oliver Kelley Farm has promoted saving rare and heirloom seeds for more than 35 years. The annual seed exchange takes place in the visitor center and begins with a seed saving expert sharing insights into heirloom plants and gardening, followed by the seed exchange. Participants do not need to bring seeds in order to take seeds home. Seed art and sorting activities will be provided for children.

    This workshop is for ages 4-10 with an adult guide. Refreshments provided.

Participants will take home a finished food product, recipes, and instructions. Takes place in the visitor center Learning Kitchen.

    Family Food Frolic is a new workshop series for families that explores new ways to use different foods to create meals and snacks for seasonal, regional, ethnic, and holiday events. Participants will take home finished food products and recipes.

    This workshop is designed for families with school-age children. One adult per child under age 10 must attend to assist.

    Celebrate the most important holiday of the mid-19th century: Fourth of July. Join the Kelley Farm staff for a day filled with 19th century games, races, picnicking and listening to speeches. Then participate in 21st century games, crafts and sample ice cream. Take a ride on the trolley along the nature trails. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic lunch.

Participants will leave with a garden plan, seed saving tools, and some seeds for spring planting.

    Create a plan for your home vegetable garden in this hands-on workshop located in the new visitor center classrooms. Topics will include seed and plant selection, garden design, soil amendments, irrigation, mulching, weed suppression, and harvesting.

    Celebrate Labor Day Weekend and the culmination of the grain growing season at the Oliver Kelley Farm. Help farmers bring grain bundles in from the historic field, thresh the grain in an 1856 Cox and Roberts horse-powered threshing machine, bag up the grain, and rake away the straw.

    Then compare that experience to a modern combine at the Farm Lab. Explore a variety of grains, their uses, and flavors in the Learning Kitchen in the visitor center.
