Chanhassen Dinner Theatres is thrilled to bring its audiences the exciting musical that took Broadway by storm, Disney’s Newsies! With astounding choreography, unforgettable songs and inspirational storytelling, Newsies is a not-to-be-missed, high-energy show for all ages.

Inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City, Jack Kelly hawks the headlines day-in and day-out with countless other newsboys trying to save enough to make his dreams a reality. New York World publisher, Joseph Pulitzer, realizes he can maximize profits by raising the price of the “papes” and does so without a word to the “Newsies.” Upon seeing Pulitzer’s greed, the newsboys protest and declare a strike against all the publishing giants. Realizing it will take more than his friends to make a difference, Jack rallies all the “Newsies” in New York City. Through courage, determination, and friendship the “Newsies” are ready to seize the day and take a stand.

Coupled with dazzling choreography, the unforgettable songs are from Academy Award®-winning composer Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas), and include: “Carrying the Banner,” “King of New York,” “Santa Fe” and “Seize the Day.” Don’t miss this ultimate crowd-pleaser, a Minnesota Regional Premiere, nominated for 8 Tony Awards – Including Best Musical!

“We are saying what HE said,” laughs Matt Vee, referring to the one and only Neil Diamond. Matt, Jeff and Tommy Vee, nephew and sons of the legendary Bobby Vee, respectively, join forces with their family and friends to celebrate the music from the timeless catalog of Neil Diamond. With songs like "Cracklin' Rosie," "Song Sung Blue," and "Sweet Caroline,” Neil Diamond sold over 100 million records worldwide with music that became the soundtrack to one generation after another with hits spanning five decades. A prolific songwriter, he penned songs recorded by everyone from Elvis Presley to Deep Purple and, of course, the Monkee’s classic, “I’m A Believer.”

“This is not a typical tribute show,” says Tommy Vee. “This is a celebration of an amazing musical icon, one we all love and respect. We have been fans since we were in grade school and have performed Neil’s tunes over the years in various bands. We have recruited an incredible group of singers and players and have gone back to the original records,” he explains, “It is all about the vocals and Matt absolutely nails it! It’s going to be a rockin’ night!”

There are few albums as universally beloved or influential as the Beatles’ two 1967 masterpieces: Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The band reached its creative peak with these albums, utilizing strings, horns, sound effects, animal sounds, and even a calliope. Though the albums contain some of the band’s most memorable compositions, they are extremely challenging musically, which is why they are rarely performed live. The Beatles themselves never performed the music live.

Come hear the largest performance of the group in the Twin Cities yet, a fifteen piece rock orchestra complete with the Laurels String Quartet, horns and woodwinds, as they perform both albums note for note in their entirety including "I Am the Walrus," "Penny Lane," "Strawberry Fields Forever" and the unforgettable "A Day in the Life.” It will be a night of music you will not forget.
