  • From Princeton, MN take Hwy 169 south 4 miles to the exit for Co. Rd. 9. Go west on Co. 9 four miles to the entrance to the refuge where an information kiosk can be found.

    The annual celebration of wildlife, beginning with a 5K run/walk through the refuge. Featuring author and wildlife photographer, Stan Tekiela, live birds, horse drawn wagon rides, nature crafts, bird education, wildlife discover, Eagle's nest Nature Store, silent auction and food. Small fee for 5K and food. All other activities free. Classroom site on Old Schoolhouse Road south side of CR 9.

    Many songbirds, cranes, herons, cormorants, ducks, geese and trumpeter swans can be expected, as well as hawks and eagles. Recent sightings, weather and preferences of the group will determine the itinerary, which may include walking parts of both Mahnomen and Blue Hill Hiking Trails, and driving around the 7 mile long Prairie's Edge Wildlife Drive. This tour is free and open to everyone. Bring insect repellent, water, field guide and binoculars.

    Join us for a tour to see wildflowers and native grasses whose colors and textures decorate the fall landscape. Volunteer naturalist and wildflower enthusiast, Robin DeLong will be your guide. Meet Robin at Refuge Headquaters on CR 9, five miles west of Hwy 169 for this Car caravan tour of the refuge.
