    Celebrate the incomparable Lena Horne! Audiences are transported back in time with Broadway star Syndee Winters (Hamilton, The Lion King, Pippin). Lena: A Moment with a Lady uses powerful vocals and a rich story line to share the most pivotal moments in Lena Horne's life. In the 1940s and 50s, Ms. Horne topped the charts with hit songs like Stormy Weather and The Lady is a Tramp, as well as starred in numerous films. Recognized as an influential African-American pioneer in entertainment, she broke new ground when she signed with MGM studios and became one of the first artists to break the color line.

    Literature to Life is a theater company that specializes in adapting prize-winning books for the stage. This one-man play brings to life Junot Diaz's poignant story, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. Oscar is an overweight Dominican boy growing up in Paterson, New Jersey who obsesses over science fiction, falling in love, and the curse that has plagued his family for generations. Despite endless taunting, Oscar remains true to himself. This is a powerful tale of cultural identity, coming of age and the endless human capacity to persevere in the name of love.

    The Crossroads Project brings the power of performance art to bear on one of the great conversations of our time: the sustainability of our planet and the quest for a meaningful response. Blending compelling and poetic science, evocative imagery and powerful music including music by Haydn, Janácek, and living composer, Laura Kaminsky, the Fry street Quartet, along with physicist and educator Dr. Robert Davies, explore the impact of earth's rapidly changing climate and humanity's opportunity for a new direction. The result is an inspiring contemplation of the paths before us.

    The SJU Art Gallery will host the paintings of Rebecca Allan, which are featured in this performance, and the audience is invited to a reception in the Gallery following the show.

    Welcome the Stranger, set in 17th century Italy, honors the lives of twin Saints Benedict and Scholastica. The Rose Ensemble will showcase 500 years of music celebrating the unconditional hospitality of the Benedictines - much of it preserved in the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library, SJU. The Rose Ensemble's vocal artistry invites exploration of hospitality as a community value exemplified in music, story, community practice, and spirituality in the Benedictine tradition. This timely new program highlights the call of Benedict's rule: "All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ."


    The Rose Ensemble will showcase 500 years of music celebrating the unconditional hospitality of the Benedictines - much of it preserved in the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library, SJU.

Selling out concerts around the globe, these first-rate artists create big fun from small instruments as they slide playfully from Tchaikovsky to Spaghetti Western to Otis Redding.

    They have trained their whole lives. In June 2017, exceptional rising stars display technical mastery and deep passion as they compete to be the world's finest young pianist. Widely recognized as the world's most important, the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition brings together 30 competitors (ages 18-30) from 16 different nations once every four years, and is dedicated to the discovery of the finest players in the world/ Our matinee performance will feature the coveted gold medal winner - the newly selected "world's best pianist."
