Roses Bloom on Duluth Waterfront

The Duluth Rose Garden is a unique, contemplative spot in the center of the city with an impressive showcase of plants, including hundreds of rose varieties and some unique hybrids. The garden’s floral sights and scents and Lake Superior vistas are a feast for the senses.

The original vision for the Duluth Rose Garden came from Ausma Klints, a Latvian immigrant who recreated a European-style, formal garden on the waterfront. The garden began with 2,000 roses. Today, this two and a half-acre horticultural delight features over 3,000 roses and 12,000 other plantings, including perennials, shrubs, and herbs. Though the garden has changed, it retains a formal design and its original gazebo and antique fountain.

The rose garden is located along the four-mile Lakewalk, a path for walkers, runners, and bicyclists that runs along Duluth’s vibrant waterfront. Nearby attractions include ships and a lift bridge in the harbor, a business and entertainment district, parks, museums, and outdoor concerts and movies.

The Duluth Rose Garden is located at 12th Avenue East and London Road. There is no admission fee, and street parking is free.
