Tour Winona with Architecture App
Visitors to Winona’s historic downtown will find impressive architecture reflecting Winona’s 19th-century position as a center of commerce and civic growth. But if you need help identifying materials and motifs, architects, and the difference between Romanesque and Prairie School styles, now there’s an app.
Stories in Structure: Winona Architecture Tour is a handy smart phone app and online resource to enhance your visit to this bluff country town. Learn more about the 19th-century County Court House and Choate Building, both massive structures with carved stonework. See a classic Purcell & Elmslie Prairie School design at the 1912 Merchant’s National Bank, and an Egyptian Revival-infused Prairie School design at the Winona National Bank. Compare these styles with the art deco City Hall building, also on the tour.
The buildings on the tour are located within a five-block area of downtown that also includes the Winona County Historical Society, which produced the mobile tour.
