Learn to Camp at DNR Program

By Erica Wacker

DNR I Can Camp programCity slickers and others who didn’t grow up camping may be intimidated to get out there on their own. For this reason, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources runs an “I Can Camp!” program on summer weekends at parks throughout the state. Participants receive hands-on instruction on setting up a campsite, building a campfire and cooking outdoors.

One- and two-night programs are available, and tents, air mattresses, cooking equipment and other camping gear are included in the nominal fee. During the day, family-friendly activities may include everything from hiking to fishing to geocaching.
