Neat Minnesota Water Holes

By Chuck Lennon

Here's a dozen Minnesota golf water holes that are interesting examples of how challenging the game can get in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and 500+ golf courses!

Superior National at Lutsen

Two "Canyon Nine" holes at SN combine for some fun. Canyon #5 (above left) is a 298 yard par 4 with a tee shot into the canyon over a raging river. Canyon #6 (above right) is a 155 yard par 3 coming out of the canyon with an approach shot over the same raging river to the green.

Stonebrooke Golf Club, Shakopee

On the par 4 380-yard 8th hole players endure a 240-yard forced carry over a Lake O'Dowd bay and then take a ferry ride across the water to the landing area. There's also water behind the green.

Edinburgh USA, Brooklyn Park

The seventeenth hole is a 370 yard par 4 with an island fairway leading to a peninsula green.

Legends Club, Prior Lake

Legends Club's #13 is a 209 yard par 3 and all carry from the silver tees.

Emerald Greens Golf Club, Hastings

The #6 hole on the Silver course is a 139 whack from the blue tees to an island green.

Izatys Black Brook, Onamia

The fourteenth hole is a par 3 that routes along Lake Mille Lac and presents various degrees of difficulty with the changing winds.

Fox Hollow Golf Club, St. Michael

The course's signature hole is the intimidating #3 par 3 with the Crow River on both sides and a narrow island green with an extreme slope to the water's edge on both sides.

The Legend at Giant's Ridge, Biwabik

The seventeenth hole is one of the most beautiful par 3s in Minnesota. It's a 226 yard forced carry over the lake to the green.

The Pines at Grandview Lodge, Nisswa

The seventh hold on The Lakes nine is a par 3 with a steep, useable side hill to the right of the green.

Baker National, Medina

Baker's par 5 number 6 has a lake looming on the left and an approach shot over a creek to the green.

Rush Creek Golf Club, Maple Grove

Probably one of the state's top finishing holes is Rush Creek's par 5 #18, with water all along the left side, threatening three golf shots en route to the green.
