Mall of America Turns 20!

The goal was to build a destination attraction, more than just a shopping mall. Since opening its doors in 1992, Mall of America® has revolutionized the shopping experience and become a leader in retail, entertainment and attractions. Mall of America is one of the top tourist destinations in the United States, attracting more than 40 million visitors each year. Anniversary events will be celebrated throughout 2012, offering visitors the chance to shop their favorite stores (no tax on clothing or shoes in Minnesota!), dine at fantastic restaurants, as well as attending free musical performances, celebrity book signings, fashion shows and more!

Mall of America, located adjacent to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota, suburb of Bloomington, has development rights for up to an additional 5.6 million square feet of mixed-use space. Expansion plans consist of a multi-level complex that will connect to the existing Mall on all four levels. Phase II anticipates drawing up to an additional 20 million visitors. The expansion will add up to 8,000 additional parking spaces. Phase II has begun with, among other offerings, the groundbreaking for a Radisson Blu hotel.

The 500 room Radisson Blu hotel at the Mall of America will be the first and only hotel to be physically connected to the Mall. Radisson Blu, formerly Radisson SAS, is the brand name for the Minnesota-based Carlson Companies' Radisson hotels traditionally located outside the United States. The MOA property, opening in early 2014, will be the second Radisson Blu in the U.S.
