Glacial Lakes & Hills

subregion_C_GlacialLakes.jpgAges ago, retreating glaciers left numerous hills and lakes in their wake. Today, vacationers enjoy the many fine fishing lakes and resorts here. Resort memorabilia and classic old wooden boats are featured at the Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum in Alexandria. At the Kensington Runestone Museum, learn about the Vikings many believe explored this area. A winery and summer theater are other highlights.

Check for performances at the Center for the Arts at Fergus Falls. Explore the scenic countryside of Otter Tail County, including the 1889 Phelps Mill, Inspiration Peak, an art gallery in Battle Lake, and a veterans museum in Perham. Enjoy an art gallery and performances at the New York Mills Cultural Center.

There are excellent golf courses in the area, including a couple near Glenwood, on Lake Minnewaska. Cyclists will enjoy the pastoral Central Lakes Trail. At Glacial Lakes State Park, you can see prairie grasses and wildflowers.
