Northwest Minnesota
Enjoy the Great Northwest of Minnesota, where prairie meets the north woods.
The Northwest region is home to Minnesota's largest lakes and the headwaters of the great Mississippi River. Among the forests and the lakes, there are lots of things to enjoy: fishing and boating, biking miles of scenic paved trails, hiking state parks, golfing beautiful courses, and bird watching in a wide variety of habitats, from native prairie to big bog. Snowmobiling, ice fishing and cross-country ski trails provide plenty of winter fun.
Attractive towns offer specialty shops, art galleries and “Up North” finds. Several towns are surrounded by clusters of lakes, with family resorts and campgrounds along their shores. Major music festivals, summer theater and heritage festivals draw lots of applause. Lake of the Woods, the Red River Valley, and the Mississippi Headwaters Lakes areas each have their own character.
