Lake of the Woods

Lake of the Woods Region of Minnesota

Straddling the U.S.-Canada border are the expansive waters of Lake of the Woods. These waters boast some of the finest walleye and northern pike fishing in the state. In fact, this area is popular for a variety of outdoor activities: boating, camping, hunting and wildlife watching. Many year-round lodges and resorts cater to outdoor enthusiasts.

Winter is a special season in this area. For snowmobilers, there are hundreds of miles of groomed trails. Ice fishing is another winter specialty up here, and many resorts provide heated ice houses on the big lake and track-vehicle transportation to and from the houses.

Main access points to the area are the lakeshore town of Warroad; Baudette, on the Rainy River; the Northwest Angle, a peninsula jutting into Lake of the Woods; and Roseau, where Polaris produces snowmobiles and ATVs.
