Hocokata Ti [ho-cho-kah-tah-tee] is the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community's (SMSC) cultural center and gathering space for the Community’s tribe members. The purpose of the building is to maintain and encourage traditional Mdewakanton Dakota cultural heritage, language, and history by sustaining this inherent knowledge for the SMSC’s tribe members through exhibitions, preservation, and education.

Hocokata Ti’s 3,805-square-foot public exhibit, Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake, provides visitors with a cultural experience that enhances their knowledge and understanding of the Mdewakanton Dakota people and their history. Tours are offered to guests, where an assortment of Dakota Sioux artifacts can be viewed in the public gallery.

The outdoor trails and gardens include plants that are culturally significant to Dakota people and are for SMSC tribe members only. The trails, gardens, and lower level of the building are not open to the public.
