    Annie was the longest resident at Scandia's Gammelgarden - "small farm". We celebrate her tradition of a Coffee Party each 2nd Saturday September through December. A 3-course Swedish coffee party is a perfect way to celebrate birthdays, Red Hat outings, a family get together, or a special treat for yourself and a friend!
    *Learn about life in Minnesota as a Swedish immigrant
    and find out about Swedish history and culture
    *Guided tour of the 5 historic buildings is included September and October. November and December Coffee Parties share in a history discussion with the Museum Director.
    *Visit the Scandia Butik to find wonderful Scandinavian gifts

    Baking gingerbread originated all the way back in the 10th century! In 1812 Hansel and Gretel was written and the tradition of creating unique hand decorated gingerbread houses began. Join us at the museum for a fun family day decorating your very own gingerbread house. We will hear the story of The Mouse That Ate The House (Sheila Pursglove) over hot cocoa and cookies. Come and see the Gammelgarden buildings created in miniature gingerbread! Then with all the decorating supplies and gingerbread pieces provided, create your very own masterpiece!

    Large houses $10 each; Small houses $5 each. Share the decorating fun as a family on one house, or many.

    Girls ages 6-96 are invited to a fancy tea party with your doll! There will be stories, games, dances, crafts, music centered around historical information of the mid 1800’s. Special Christmas teas will include the legend and celebration of Lucia. It will be a fun afternoon for girls of all ages!

    Welcome the Jul season with the celebration of Lucia. Follow the candlelit pathway to the GammelKyrkan for a brief Swedish prayer service. (Dress warmly - this church dates back to 1856 and has no heat.) Afterwards, join us across the street at the Community Center for a full Lucia Jul Fest Breakfast with special guests; the Svenskarnas Dag Girls Choir which presents their lovely music program that honors Lucia and her ministry of bringing light into darkness. Gammelgarden's large exhibit of Lucia artifacts will be on display during the month of December for your enjoyment in our Passage Room of the Valkommen Hus.     Enjoy a traditional holiday Swedish Smörgåsbord starring the famous Swedish Lutfisk served with cream sauce and melted butter accompanied by: glorious Swedish meatballs, parsley buttered potatoes, swedish beans, pickled beets, scandinavian coleslaw, rye bread, lefse, krispbread and Swedish almond cake with lingonberry compote. Before or after dinner stop and place a bid or two at our Silent Auction and/or walk off your lutfisk and head across the street to the Butik Gift Shop at the museum to take advantage of our annual sale. 15% discount on ALL items in addition to your member discount of 10%!

    Midsommar Dag is the most important holiday of the year and one of the most uniquely Swedish in the way it is celebrated. The Majstang (the Swedish version of a Maypole) is decorated with greens and flowers then raised in the center of town. Traditional Swedish music and dances celebrate the long days of summer!
