    Enjoy $2 off our regularly priced $7 tour by purchasing a combo ticket for 3rd Thursday Smorgasbord. Choose your tour time, 10 am or 1 pm. Both tour groups will be served Smorgasbord at Elim Church from 11:30 to 1:00. This traditional Swedish meal is available for any size group including couples, families, friends, and groups of all sizes. We can accommodate up to 100 guests, we must have 25 or more total reservations to host this event. Adult ticket price for Smorgasbord $20 plus discounted tour ticket $5. Smorgasbord combo ticket $25. Combo tickets for children under 12 are $10. Arrangements and reservations are required 2 weeks in advance of your visit.     Traditional Swedish Smorgasbord will feature Swedish meatballs and gravy, parsley buttered boiled potatoes, cheese plate, herring in wine sauce, Scandinavian coleslaw, pickled beets, fresh fruit, bread basket, Wasa crackers, dessert, coffee and lemonade.

    Annie was the longest resident at Scandia's Gammelgarden - "small farm". We celebrate her tradition of a Coffee Party October through December. A 3-course Swedish coffee party is a perfect way to celebrate birthdays, Red Hat outings, a family get together, or a special treat for yourself and a friend!

    and find out about Swedish history and culture

    Step back in time to the 1850's with Immigrant Inspired Family Events held at the old, small farm known as Gammelgarden Museum. We provide family friendly, free activities, games or crafts from the 1850's on our grounds among the 5 historic buildings that make up the old (gammel) small farm (garden). Experience life on an immigrant farm on Sunday May 27 from 1:00 to 4:00. This is a free event for families.

    Welcome the Jul season with the celebration of Lucia. Follow the candlelit pathway to the GammelKyrkan for a brief Swedish prayer service. (Dress warmly - this church dates back to 1856 and has no heat.) Afterwards, join us across the street at the Community Center for a full Lucia Jul Fest Breakfast with special guests; the Svenskarnas Dag Girls Choir which presents their lovely music program that honors Lucia and her ministry of bringing light into darkness. Gammelgarden's large exhibit of Lucia artifacts will be on display during the month of December for your enjoyment in our Passage Room of the Valkommen Hus.     Enjoy a traditional holiday Swedish Smörgåsbord starring the famous Swedish Lutfisk served with cream sauce and melted butter accompanied by: glorious Swedish meatballs, parsley buttered potatoes, swedish beans, pickled beets, scandinavian coleslaw, rye bread, lefse, krispbread and Swedish almond cake with lingonberry compote. Before or after dinner stop and place a bid or two at our Silent Auction and/or walk off your lutfisk and head across the street to the Butik Gift Shop at the museum to take advantage of our annual sale. 15% discount on ALL items in addition to your member discount of 10%!

    Midsommar Dag is the most important holiday of the year and one of the most uniquely Swedish in the way it is celebrated. The Majstang (the Swedish version of a Maypole) is decorated with greens and flowers then raised in the center of town. Traditional Swedish music and dances celebrate the long days of summer!

  8. Running of the Meatballs

    Running of the Meatballs is a unique and hilarious downhill race of thousands of “meatballs” (brown painted golf balls). It is not only fun to watch but an important fundraiser for the museum’s ongoing historic building renovation projects. Tickets are $5 apiece or $20 for 5 and can be purchased in the gift shop or from a roaming ticket seller before the race that starts shortly before the Taco Daze parade. The meatballs are released and roll wildly down Oak Hill Road into the chute. Prizes are awarded to the first 10 balls down the hill.

    Fiddlers - Calling all fiddlers! Gammelgarden celebrates the Immigrant Fiddle - important in many immigrant cultures. Join us to participate and/or appreciate this Annual festival called Spelmanstamma! (Spelman-fiddler and stämma-gathering) Musicians, dancers, crafts and food. All outside amid 1850's Swedish historic log buildings. Join the fun. Bring your own instrument. Activities for children. Artists and vendors.
