    The 12th annual Brainerd Jaycees Run for the Lakes Marathon will be Friday and Saturday, April 26-27, in downtown Nisswa. The full marathon course, which is certified by U.S. Track and Field & is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, takes runners on a scenic path through woods and past lakes. Participants may also choose a 1/2 marathon, relay marathon, 10K race, 5K family fun run and 1K kids run. The all-volunteer race has been run in all types of weather and has grown to attract more than 1,000 runners. All proceeds from Run for the Lakes are donated to local non-profits and focus on improving trail systems in the Brainerd Lakes Area.

    Nisswa is the place to be the day after Thanksgiving! While others are thinking about the hustle and bustle of Black Friday shopping, the Nisswa downtown is creating a Norman Rockwell scene. Festivities for the 38th annual event begin in the afternoon with horse-drawn wagon rides, storytelling, food vendors, bonfires, holiday carolers and live reindeer. Pioneer Village is the setting for the live nativity, and Love Lights a Tree program, which supports Good Samaritan Society's Home Hospice program. At dusk the town is illuminated with thousands of LIGHTS and Santa Claus greets the children. The event culminates with a rare winter fireworks display that lights up the crisp night sky.

    Nisswa ushers in fall with the 45th annual Nisswa Fall Festival. The 14th annual Smokin' Hot BBQ Challenge is part of this annual fall tradition. Start your day with a pancake breakfast. You can participate in the medallion hunt and compete in the bean bag tournament. Kids congregate by the turtle track parking lot for activities that include bounce houses and games. The tantalizing smell of barbecued ribs wafts through town as teams compete in the Smokin' Hot BBQ Challenge. After ribs are judged, the public gets it's chance to taste the creations. Late afternoon live music outdoor concert throughout the day.

    Celebrate FREEDOM in Nisswa on Wednesday, July 3, with a full schedule of fun! Activities throughout the day include Turtle races, Water Wars, music, food vendors and more! The Freedom Day Parade starts at 7pm. Spectators line both sides of Main Street to watch the parade that includes various floats, marching veterans' groups, high school marching bands, clowns, area royalty, fire trucks, car clubs, horse-riding groups and more.

    The Gull Lake Events group joins forces to bring a fun, autumn Pub Crawl to the lakes area. FREE shuttle service between locations, commemorative mugs and lots of great food and music are all part of the event. Participating locations include: Ernie's on Gull, Zorbaz on Gull, Grand View Lodge, Jakes Gull Lake, Cowboys, Sherwood Forest, Bar Harbor and Gull Dam Brewing. Proceeds benefit Confidence Learning Center, Soup Kitchen and the Food Shelf. This event runs in conjunction with Grand View Lodge's 9th annual Golftoberfest, featuring live music under a heated tent.

    The Firecracker tradition means something different to everybody - family get togethers, summertime, sunshine, up north, the lake, Forth of July, friendships, and more. The Nisswa Firecracker Run Up North events is a northwoods family tradition that has grown exponentially since its debut in 2010. The event features a morning 5K, 10K and Kids Run. It is known for it's laid back atmosphere, comfy event shirts, amazing crawfish boil, free Pabst and super fun finish line. The race starts on Main Street. Participants run through town, into the woods, and on a scenic tour along Lower Cullen Lake. The finish line is at the Nisswa Community Center with awards, prizes, and the Kids Run. Try live crawfish from the Bayou prepared and served at the Event!

    The official Turtle Race Track in Downtown Nisswa is the place to be Wednesday afternoons in summer to cheer on turtles as they make a break for the outer circle finish line. The 56th season of Nisswa Turtle Races will kick off Wednesday, June 5th, at the turtle track located behind the welcome center building/public restroom along the Paul Bunyan Trail in downtown Nisswa. No matter what the weather, races start at 2pm each Wednesday through Aug 21st attracting huge crowds each week. Rent a turtle for an afternoon of fun! Registration begins at 1pm. Awards are given for the Grand Champion Turtle Race, Resort Race, Tiny Tots Race, Out of State/Country Race, Grandparents Race and Locals Race. Turtle Races are open to kids of all ages, no matter if you are 1 or 101!
