From October to April, basketball fans gather at Target Center in downtown Minneapolis to cheer on the NBA team, the Minnesota Timberwolves. Also known as the T-Wolves, the team debuted in 1989 ending the dry spell in effect since the Minnesota Lakers left for Los Angeles in 1960.

The Timberwolves have had an impressive roster of players throughout the years, including the recently returned Kevin Garnett, and previous standouts Stephon Marbury and All-Star Kevin Love. Current team members include Andrew Wiggins, Ricky Rubio, Zach LaVine, Kevin Martin, Thaddeus Young and Nikola Pekovic. The team has had nine playoff appearances and won the Midwest Division Title in 2004.

The Timberwolves’ sister team, the Minnesota Lynx, plays from spring to fall at Target Center. The team’s incredible roster of talents has included All-Star Seimone Augustus, one of the WNBA’s top scorers and an Olympic Gold Medal winner; and Lindsay Whalen, a Minnesota native with several collegiate records who reached the Final Four with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Whalen has since retired from professional basketball to take over as the Golden Gophers' head coach.
