LOCATION: Downtown Fairmont, Minnesota **Meet across the street of Fairmont Opera House (SE Corner of Round About) 45 Downtown Plaza, Fairmont, MN 56031

DATE & TIME: Saturday October 20th 4:00-7:30 PM

COURSE OVERVIEW: “Take a stroll downtown like never before! Join me, local Fairmont Artist, Caroline Porter on a walk around Downtown Plaza then join me for a drink at Fairmont Brewing Company (FBC). I’ll lead a group of students on a walking tour where we make stops on the sidewalk along the way to urban sketch (paint/draw) preselected buildings, historical landmarks, and/or nature aspects around town. Throughout the class, I’ll talk about fun historical facts about each subject which have been provided by the Martin County Historical Society. At the end of class, each stop/page will be bound together with twine to make an art journal keepsake of your experience. There will be a total of four pages: cover page, stop 1, stop 2, and stop 3.”

"We'll make two stops around downtown, then make our last stop at Fairmont Brewing Company where we'll paint and draw our last subject. One free drink at Fairmont Brewing Company is included with your ticket. Not in to alcohol or brought the kids? No worries! FBC has a variety of non-alcoholic drinks including NA beer and seltzer, water, sparkling waters (Poppi and Bubblr) and root beer."

  • Stop #1: Martin County Courthouse located at 201 Lake Ave
  • Stop #2: The best looking fall tree on either the intersection of 2nd and Downtown Plaza or 3rd and Downtown Plaza, we will decide day of class.
  • Stop 3#: Fairmont Brewing Company located at 414 Downtown Plaza, Fairmont

MATERIALS: *Instructor will provide all necessary materials for this class, however, if you would like to use your own materials (i.e. paints or brushes), students are more than welcome to bring their own.

AGE REQUIREMENTS? Ages 14+ (Children ages 10-13 to be accompanied by an adult.)

Can we have food? Yes! Class should arrive at FBC around 6:00 PM. They usually have a food truck parked out front until 7:00 PM or later (depends on the day/truck). You are more than welcome to order from food trucks at FBC or along the way. FBC also allows outside food to be delivered to FBC. FBC also offers FREE popcorn!

Age Requirements? I'd recommend children ages 10-13 to be accompanied by an adult. Ages 14 through Adult.

Students may park anywhere there is public parking. I'd recommend parking near FBC (located at 414 Downtown Plaza, Fairmont, MN 56031) or somewhere in between Stop 1 and 3 to minimize how much you'd have to walk back to your car after class. Beside free street parking in downtown, there are also a few public parking lots (free).

I will bring lawn chairs for students to use while you urban sketch. They may not be the best of the best, therefore, if you would like to bring your own folding lawn chair, you are welcome to. You would need to be able to carry it from each location as my wagon may be full with the provided chairs.

Please understand this class will have a fair amount of walking involved. Between each stop, we will be walking between 2-3 blocks. I will not be able to shuttle students from stop to stop. Students will be responsible for getting to and from locations.
