This unique exhibition marks the culmination of Belwin’s 2023–24 Artist in Residence program, created in partnership with the Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery. Tomas Alvarez and Whitney Terrill immersed themselves in the landscapes of Belwin. Now we invite you to experience the new work they created in response to their time on the land.

Tomas Alvarez is a technologist and professional photographer. From Tomas: “I've embarked on a transformative journey, evolving from a photography enthusiast after college to being wholeheartedly captivated by the art form a decade ago. Photography has seamlessly woven itself into the fabric of my life, leaving an indelible mark in countless ways. Delve into my portfolio of landscape images, and you'll discover a distinctive style that seamlessly merges artistic vision with a profound reverence for the natural world. Each photograph tells a story, encapsulating the breathtaking beauty that surrounds us. Through the years, my dedication and passion have been recognized through solo and group exhibitions, accolades in publications, and even gracing the covers of a few notable works.”

Whitney Terrill is a Minnesota multimedia artist working primarily in printmaking, photography, and painting. She also maintains a public art practice which includes mural painting, banners, and protest art. Whitney has created multiple murals to raise social and environmental justice awareness in North and South Minneapolis. Whitney is an educator in the Teaching Artist Learning Collaborative (2023-2024) and a recipient of the Full Color Fellowship (2023-2024) at Highpoint Center for Printmaking. In addition to being a member of PF Studios, Whitney is also a member of Creatives After Curfew mural collective. She was previously part of the Hope Community’s Power of Vision Mural Collective and the 2024 Cohort for the TCSTR program. Whitney was selected as a finalist for the 2024-2025 Emerging Curators Institute program and the 2024-2025 Ananya Dance Theater Next Gen Choreo Lab.
