ABOUT THE FILM
Twelve-year-old Carla —who decides to call herself Isla—travels to the Galapagos Islands with her father, a marine biologist. She carries a tragedy on her shoulders—the death of her older brother that has left her speechless, unable to express her feelings. With a script that is inspired among others by The Origin of Species, the book of Genesis, and One Thousand and One Nights, the story follows Carla on her unique journey through this magnificent island with a know-it-all boy nicknamed "Wiki," and an islander fittingly called Darwin. Along the way, she meets Harriet, a woman who practices and teaches a special art of healing. They'll ask her to cure Carla's sadness. But Harriet’s methods do not involve medicine but words, stories, tales of the past.
Winner of the coveted Sloan Science in Cinema Award and shot entirely on the famous archipelago, Ecuadorian filmmaker Tania Hermida offers a captivating take on overcoming grief with the help of vital friendships, and discovering the transformative power of storytelling.
