ABOUT THE FILM

Ten-year-old Gloria (Laura Brandão) spends the summer holidays accompanying her mother Antônia (Larissa Mauro) to the hospital where she works as a nurse. Gloria wanders around in this adult environment where life and death routinely battled in front of her eyes. One day, she meets Sofia, also ten, who is there because her grandmother is suffering from Alzheimer’s. Sofia is convinced that her grandmother's health is deteriorating because she is hospitalized. Gloria is also troubled because she almost died as a small child. She can't remember but a heart transplant saved her life. Together, the two build an intense and delicate friendship, while facing the fragility of life, and the challenges of growing up.

Rafaela Camelo's feature film debut dives into themes like aging, illness, death, and gender identity with magic realism and a fresh touch of humor. The two young protagonists defy the notion of childhood with determination, wisdom and playfulness and prove that life is a continuous cycle, that death and rebirth are possible through a beating heart or a new self. Winner Outstanding First Feature Award at Frameline 2025.

Gloria (Laura Brandão), de dez anos, passa as férias de verão acompanhando sua mãe Antônia (Larissa Mauro) ao hospital onde ela trabalha como enfermeira. Gloria circula por esse ambiente adulto onde vida e morte se enfrentam rotineiramente diante de seus olhos. Um dia, ela conhece Sofia, também de dez anos, que está ali porque sua avó sofre de Alzheimer. Sofia está convencida de que a saúde da avó está piorando por estar hospitalizada. Gloria também está inquieta, pois quase morreu quando era pequena. Ela não se lembra, mas um transplante de coração salvou sua vida. Juntas, as duas constroem uma amizade intensa e delicada, enquanto enfrentam a fragilidade da vida e os desafios de crescer. A estreia em longa-metragem de Rafaela Camelo mergulha em temas como envelhecimento, doença, morte e identidade de gênero com realismo mágico e um toque fresco de humor. As duas jovens protagonistas desafiam a noção de infância com determinação, sabedoria e leveza, e provam que a vida é um ciclo contínuo, que a morte e o renascimento são possíveis através de um coração pulsante ou de um novo eu.
